The Giant and The Dragon

Once there was a family like no other. A family of mighty giants. One daddy giant, one mummy giant and one young giant. 

Out of all the giant families, Samuel was the youngest one in the village. None of the other giants wanted to play with him.

One day Samuel was bored. Samuel said to his mum "There is nothing to do and no one to play with". His mummy was very busy.

She replied, "Why don't you help me Sam?" Samuel sighed, "Oh mummy that's not fun!" mummy giant smiled and said "Well go find something to do!  Just don't go too far!"

Samuel was thinking what he could do "Hmm?" He thought "I know I'll play Tag" but this is impossible alone. "Well, this is not fun by myself!" "Hmm I know," He thought, "I'm going to play hide and seek". So he hid Behind a tree and started to count 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9,10. 

Then he opened his eyes and joked  "Found you. Hmm, this in not fun too". Samuel was pacing back and forth thinking about what he could do when he saw one of his mummy's cows.  "Oh no" he cried "mummy is not going to be very happy. A cow has wandered off again". Samuel ran after the cow. He grabbed the cow but it was all slippery and the cow got free. Samuel said "oh no come back little cow don't run in the woods" 


Samuel looked around and didn't recognise any of the trees or even the way he had come. He started to get scared; he was walking for many hours in the forest.

As the sun went down he saw some little lights. Samuel said "Ah this must be my home" and off he went. He was walking through the darkness towards the lights and he  thought it was a village but it was far too small and tiny. Then he stood in something slimy.  Samuel grumbled "Eww" He started rubbing his slimy shoe in a field. 


The tiny people came out from their small houses and were shocked. They were scared and angry. The young giant had just crushed their pumpkin patch and rubbed his slimy shoes all over the cornfield. In their anger, they grabbed their tools and started to be mean to the giant.

Samuel didn't know what he had done and tried to say sorry but when he spoke the noise came out like a growling roar! and the tiny people started throwing things at him. He ran back into the woods as fast as he could, not even looking back.


He ran so fast he tripped over a fallen tree. He fell down a small cliff and hurt his ankle. Samuel groaned, "Ouch please can someone help me? please?" He looked up and there was a small cave. He started to limp to the entrance. He saw a sign saying" Do Not Disturb. Unless you have milk!" He didn't have a choice he thought. Then he entered the big cave. ?? small or big. Perhaps you can decribe a small entrance and magically the cave gets bigger and bigger.


As he wandered through the cave he heard a sound of classical music. He followed the sound. It started getting louder. Samuel saw a fancy room. There was a Dragon reading a book sitting in a chair and drinking a cup of tea.


The Dragon said, "Well hello there, what are you doing in my home?" Samuel replied, "I'm sorry but I need help I'm lost and alone" The Dragon looked at Samuel and said "You poor boy, please take a seat and have a cup of tea?" I'm afraid I don't have any milk, not for a yearx now.


Samuel said, "Thank you Mr. Dragon youx are most kind but why don't you have any milk?" Then Mr. Dragon said " Well you see I don't like leaving this cave and that means I'm not going to be of much x use to you". At that the boy began to cry. "Oh my dear boy", said Mr. Dragon sympathetically  "Please don't cry, you can live here with me if you like. Samuel responded "Oh no I need to get home, please help me Mr. Dragon.


Mr. Dragon sighed "I can't. I have not left this cave in years boy. I'm sorry and if you cannot stay then you should leave now and find your way home! Samuel was sad. He needed the Dragon's help.


Suddently he had an idea and said "Please Mr. Dragon ... I can get you all the milk you could ever want." Mr. Dragon's eyes raised. He shouted, "MILK you say! in that case, I will help you get back to your home but we will be leaving in the morning".


Samuel was very grateful to Mr. Dragon. As soon as dawn broke, x Samuel shook Mr. Dragon and said "Come on wake up! Let's go it's morning!" Mr. Dragon yawned "Hmm ok boy, let me have a cup of tea first" Mr. Dragon drank his tea and then they left the cave.


Mr. Dragon was amazed "Wow I haven't been outside for years. I don't remember these flowers being here or this rock".

Samuel said, "You must have missed the outside, the fresh air, the view".


Mr. Dragon said with a tear in his eye" Yes I have! More than I realised." He took a deep breath and opened his wings. Samuel coughed "Wow they're amazing but very dusty." Mr. Dragon said, "Well, stop staring boy! Hop on".


Samuel jumped on Mr. Dragon's back. Then Mr. Dragon said "I have to tell you, I have not done this in a while" He smiled and took off into the sky almost hitting a tree on the way up. Samuel was grinning ear to ear. He said "Wow this is amazing! I can even see the small people's village from here". 


As he looked he saw the villagers upset and crying over their fields. All their food has been stamped on. Samuel felt bad no wonder they were angry.


Mr. Dragon was flying over the forest he said: "Thank you, Samuel, for this. some of us Dragons get stuck in our ways". I owe you for getting me out of that small cave with no windows and a bad smell". Samuel was glad that he had helped Mr. Dragon.


Samuel pointed with a grin on his face and said "Look there! that is my village". His mummy was waving and jumping. His daddy was wiping tears from his eyes.


Mr. Dragon Landed in the village of the Giants then Mr. Dragon said: "Here we are boy as promised". Samuel parents ran and grabbed him. 


Samuel's daddy said "Thank you brave Mr. Dragon for bringing my boy home to us. Is there anything we can do for you?" Mr. Dragon said "I don't want anything! then smiled and laughed. Samuel looked at his parents and said "Well I did promise him a lifetime of our free milk". 


Mummy said "Is that so?" she talked to daddy giant quietly and concluded, "Ok Mr. Dragon, we would like you to live here with us and never go without milk ever again".


Samuel said "We can build you a house in the village with windows and a huge teapot for your tea. Please say yes Mr. Dragon".


Mr. Dragon was so shocked and delighted he said "oh, my. Thank you Giants of the giant village. In turn, I will make the whole village my lovely pot of tea".

A few days later the giants were building Mr. Dragon a home and it was nearly finished. Mr. Dragon said, "Wow that was so fast, it looks great". Samuel said, "Oh yeah us Giants are great builders we can build anything".

Then Samuel asked his mummy "Can I have some milk and bread" Of course she said. He grabbed a giant bucket of milk and bread. He jumped on dragon's back and they flew to the little village.


He dropped the bucket gently on the field that he had crushed. He bowled down then left quickly just in case they were still angry. As the dragon took off; Samuel looked back and saw the small people laughing and jumping with joy. Samuel felt good that he had helped them.

In the days that followed Mr. Dragon Said "Hey! Do you want to play Tag or Hide and Seek perhaps"? Samuel looked at Mr. Dragon and knew he would always have a friend to play with.


And they did play every day in fact, right before and after a lovely cup of tea of course....
